Lost Your Texas Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice? You Can Still Renew Your Car
Do I Need the Renewal Notice to Register My Car?
No.
This is one of the most common questions Texas vehicle owners ask.
You can renew your registration online, by mail, or in person without the paper renewal notice. The renewal notice is primarily a convenience that provides your vehicle information and estimated fees.
If you are going to your county tax office, you can generally use:
Your Texas license plate number
Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Your previous registration receipt
Government-issued photo identification
TxDMV recommends asking the county tax office to verify that your mailing address is correct so you receive future renewal notices.
How Do I Renew My Car Registration Without the Notice?
Option 1: Renew Online
If your vehicle is eligible, you can renew your Texas registration online.
Texas allows eligible vehicle registrations to be renewed online beginning 90 days before expiration and, under current TxDMV guidance, up to 12 months after expiration if you have not received a citation for expired registration.
You can use the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles online renewal system or Texas by Texas (TxT).
Option 2: Renew at the County Tax Office
You can also go directly to your local county tax office.
You do not have to bring the renewal notice if you have the necessary vehicle information.
Bring:
Driver license or government-issued photo ID
License plate number or VIN
Proof of insurance
Previous registration receipt, if available
Required fees
The county can locate your vehicle record using the available information.
Option 3: Have Someone Handle the Registration for You
If you don't have time to go to the county tax office yourself, another person may be able to handle the renewal on your behalf.
If you do not have time to stand in line at the county tax office come to Houston Bonded Title & Surety Service and allow the experts at 2855 Mangum Rd Ste 204, Houston, TX 77092.
